This is a beautiful yet simple picture frame. The wide grain chestnut wood grain is amazing. Chestnut, as I am sure you are aware is no longer available. All the cheastnut trees in America were killed in a blight. is a perfect example of why it was so widely used and liked. The grain looks very similiar to Oak, but is wider giving good symetery. The wood itself is slightly softer than oak, making it desireable to work with. But the true beauty is that with ageing the wood grain becomes even more rich and deep. This is a small frame, 9"h x 7" w x 1 1/4" d. It is completely original, and shows no repairs or splitting whatsoever. I purchased this at an estate sale in Lancaster County Pa. The art was from a local artisan, so it may very well have been made in Lancaster County, I'm not sure. In any case this wil make a beautiful frame to display your art choice, proudly in your home. I have tried to take pictures to convey the completeness of the frame. Not even the bevel on the rear, to hold glass and art is scratchedor marked. If these pic's arent enough let me know.
