Here is a guide describing these items and their history. Most of this jewelry was meticulously handmade by extremely skilled silver artisans in China. These artisans spent hours upon hours crafting these items and it shows in their designs. Fine silver filigree work, painted and fired enamel work, finely painted scrimshaw scenes and carved precious gemstones, are the art and craft of these breathtakingly beautiful items. In the time frame between 1920-1940's, another generation of these products were made, and they are also quite beautiful and highly collectible and hold their values well. Most were made of 800 or better silver and many were made of sterling grade silver. Some of the earlier pieces were also made with a silver or gold gilt over copper. Raised relief silver designs were also produced with strikingly beautiful designs.
