This is a great find -- think unique and lasting gift! Gilt metal lamp (c. 1880's), cockatoo perched on the back of a snapping turtle. It was an original kerosene oil lamp and has been electrified (electric cord needs to be replaced/repaired). It is in very good condition, no chips or cracks and is very old. It has life-like glass eyes, feathers are intricately and realistically represented with exceptional detail. Surface shows signs of modest handling and wear, not unexpected given its age. Lamp features a "hidden compartment" (in the main part of the lamp - see photo) and could be used as a security option for special items. No maker's mark. The manufacturer is believed to be Craighead & Kintz. It measures approx 13 1/2" high from the base to the top of the cockatoo's back, approx 10" from the top of the cockatoo's (bent) head to its back. Lamp attachment is approx 12" high. An obvious bonus for the purchaser of this lamp would be the opportunity to dignify it with a new and beauiful Victorian shade or any other art work to enhance the overall decorative effect of the item. Please do not send payment until invoice is sent by seller. Thanks!
