This is a late nineteenth century ink wash drawing of a horse drawn caleche, or carriage with two grooms and with two women in the back seats. It is by the fashionable Paris artist, Constantin Guys (b. Flessingue 1802 - d. Paris 1892). The drawing is pen & ink with ink wash in shades of gray on a thin laid paper, 6 3/4 x 10". It has an old mat 11 x 13 1/4" with a faux artist name tag affixed. On the back of the drawing is a notation in blue pencil:"2454/372 / Caleche". On the backboard verso are several notations: Guys _426/Caleche, a verso label:"2454/CGuys/Caleche, with printed number: 1929. Another verso label:"guys - D 13687/Caleche" As noted, the drawing has a tear 5 1/2" long mid right and a small wormhole mid left. Unframed. The drawing has been priced allowing for the condition.
