This past December I sold a Hawkeye lightning rod glass ball that had just been taken out of the Wooden box it came in back in 1928 ( I found the date on one of the newspapers that some of the items had been wrapped in.) My retired friend has been cleaning out the basement of her farmhouse and found a wood box with several of these Turquoise Blue Lighning Rod Balls that her dad had stored t as replacements for the ones on their barn. So, this "ball" was in brand new unused condition AND not a reproduction. Well as she continued to clean out the farmhouse basement, she found other items that had never been used that also went to Weathervanes or lightning rods. So we have put the various parts together and now we have a complete cow weathervane unit including another Hawkeye ball that would have been placed on the roof of a barn in the 1920's and 30's . This is our first try at a figural weathervane; we sold 2 stained glass weathervanes on ebay in February and the buyers were well pleased. Please look at the pictures as I try to describe: t is an iron base with 3 legs that stands 2 feet high (this part would be attached to the roof of the barn; t is a hollow copper rod that is 31 inches in length that slides through the iron base (this supports the glass ball, arrow and lightning rod).
