This N. Currier lithograph depicts a grieving Victorian woman at the monument of her deceased husband. She is dressed in black gown and hat and carries a white handkerchief in one hand. The monument is topped with a funeral urn and the site is shrouded by a large weeping willow. Out in the distance a white church can be seen beyond the smaller grave markers. There is a bouquet of pink roses off to the side of the tomb. The monument is identifies "Jacob Undrens" who was born February 1, 1760 and passed March 5, 1835. The bottom edge reads Lith Pub by N. Currier 2 Spruce St, NY. This dates this particular lithograph from 1838-1856 when Nathaniel Currier's office was at this address and prior to the partnership with Ives. The print measures approx. 10" x 14" and has a simple flat wood frame with worn black stain measuring approx. 12" x 16". The original glass is broken and the corner of the print has long been exposed to the air leaving discoloration in the exposed area. I have provided photos of this area. The back has only one wooden slat left and the backing was held in place by several bent nails which are still present. There are no bends or tears on the lithograph and still has its eerie charm. New glass and backing will preserve this bit of history for many years to come. The asking price is for the lithograph only. The original read more
