ANTIQUE CUT PAPER SILHOUETTE VICTORIAN COUPLE OUTSTANDING FRAME Description: This auction is for an exceptional antique silhouette. It is cut not printed. It is quite detailed as I hope pictures will show. The frame has a great deal of depth somewhat like a shadow box. The interior frame looks to be made of gutta percha much like the Civil War tin type cases. The outside frame is wood. The silhouette is not signed. There is no staining or missing paper. I have not taken it apart for fear of damaging it. There may be more information to be gained if this is done. Framed measurements are 6" X 7 1/2". Image is 4 1/2" X 3". Frame depth is 1 1/2". I am not an expert of silhouettes so please ask questions. I will do my best to answer. That said I do believe this piece to be from the mid 1800's. It was purchased from the estate of a Milwaukee antique dealer. She had acquired many very old items which were in storage for many years. Thanks for looking. International Buyers Welcome.
