ANTIQUE DATED 1884 CRAZY QUILT HAND MADE HEAVILY EMBROIDERED 67" x 59-1/2"A masterpiece of Victorian embroidery, this turn of the century crazy quilt reminds me of a Picasso abstract painting. It is all hand pieced together with wonderful hand embroidered colorful stitch embellishments, with a lovely assortment of birds, human figures, animals, insects, flowers, leaves, and dated 1884. It is so busy.A vast array of different connecting cotton stitches in colors of the rainbow on a mixture of silk, satin, brocade and velvet fabric.The backing is a maroon wine colored satin and the front is bordered with a maroon wine colored velvet border.This quilt is a wonderful sewn together work of art. The quilter put a lot of thought into the selections of materials to give the quilt a great visual look.MEASUREMENTSMeasures 67 inches x 59-1/2 inches.CONDITIONGood unwashed condition. Three small damaged areas. Some rips, few shredded pieces, and one center ofl square has disappeared. Wear at very edge of front border velvet. No stains, no fading and still vibrant. No stitch loss. An easy fix replacing damaged patchwork. Back satin lining has small opening in seam as well as a small rip.A great quilt to be fixed and finished for your collection.Every effort has been made to describe our items as accurately as possible including flaws and imperfections
