This is a small divided box in early red paint. The outer surface has a warm red patina. T are also traces of red inside the box. I do not think it was used for cutlery, because it has no handle which was a common feature of cutlery boxes. It may have been used as a small apple or fruit box for the table top, etc. That is all the information I known about the it, except when viewing the photos, you can see that it was used a lot. It is well crafted with canted sides and a bottom that extends out from the base lending to the nice balance and design features. The small nails appear to be square or at least from the 19th century. It is a nice size 12-1/2" wide by 9-1/2 deep and 4" high. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
