Up for bid is an antique English sterling chatelaine pencil, Chester, 1899-1900. The pencil is 3 1/4 inches long (not including the free loop) when closed and weighs 6 grams. The lid contains the stub of a wooden pencil, and the lid can be reversed and inserted in to the body. Both sides of the body are decorated with hand engraving as shown. It has not been monogrammed. It bears Chester hallmarks for 1899-1900 and a maker’s mark of [C&C]. Condition on the piece is fair. Both sides of the body have broad shallow dents as shown.
