An antique 1911 Eugene Dietzgen engineer's or surveyor's compass in a protective wooden case marked in gilt Eng. Dept. USA 1911, 1169. The case has a working latch to hold it closed. The magnetic needle stays fixed on N as the dial is aimed. If the dial is sighted on a target toward the east, then the needle will be pointing toward the "E" on the dial. Thus, the surveyor can read the degrees from North so many degree East. Makes less mistakes that way.Size: case is 3" by 3" by 1".Condition: Excellent, The box is in stunning, original, excellent condition.
