Primitive Firkin Bucket with Original Lid and Paint It stands 9 ” tall (12 " w/ handle) with a gentle tapering from its 10 ” diameter bottom to the 9 ” diameter lid. The handle is held in place by wooden pegs with oversize heads. The original paint is a dark bluish green. It's seen a lot of wear and was repaired w/ some screws that are not original, of course. There are 4 pieces of metal stuck in the lid that seem to be something like antique glazier's points. They could easily be removed and serve no purpose as far as I can tell, but I'll leave that up to the buyer. In the mid-1960's, my mother, Carol Nelson hunted local auctions for authentic Bishop Hill Colony (1864-1861) artifacts. As the wife of the head historian, Ron Nelson, most colony pieces were sold/given to the State of I L to furnish the museums that were just beginning to take shape. She opened the first Antique shop in Bishop Hill Il. in 1967. I believe she acquired this firkin at that time period from a local sale and it was on display until something else took it's place. Unfortunately she is no longer around to confirm. Look carefully at the scans for the condition. The item pictured is the actual one you will receive. Item will be shipped by USPS w/ delivery confirmation (no signature required). Payment: Please submit your payment using Immediate PayPal Only.
