You are bidding on an antique wooden flute, made be Firth Hall Pond & Meacham Albany/ New York. Measures approx. 23 3/8" long. I know nothing about old flutes, so please ask questions. Did some research, so will try to discribe this, as best I can. Three of the sections are marked... Firth Hall & Pond N-York . The fourth section, I believe is marked... Meacham? & Co. Albany (the E in Meacham?, is tough to make out). I know all these makers worked with one or the other, at some point in time. Guessing this was made before 1846? Has some condition problems ....starting with the shortest section...the ivory? rings on both ends are cracked. Also, t is a short 1/4" crack in the wood, on the inside end. The metal key seems to work fine. .......the next section(2nd to the smaller) is missing a small piece of wood, w the sections go together. (see pics) Don't see anything else. .......the next section(3rd to the smallest) the end connecting this to the largest section is missing/needs repair to the"wrap". The ring sits on this loose, and this section does not fit , into the last section properly. This is the only section that doesn't fit tight. ........the last section(largest with the end cap) has 1 5/8" crack on the end that go together. Took the metal ring off, and scanned this (pic #12). This section is slightly curved, not straight. read more
