You are looking at ONE Exquisitely Detailed Flow Blue LAKEWOOD Vegetable Serving Bowl with handles from approximately 1890. This is an exquisite piece with embossing, gold leaf, and beautiful floral and leaf and lacey transferware pattern. The pattern: LAKEWOOD is by Enoch Wood and Sons from England. The flow blue on this piece is distinctive of the late 1800s , with a very intricate design but lighter and more detailed and is far more controlled than those pieces using this technique earlier in the century. The design features the traditional deep blue with lighter blue and detailed accents. While this bowl appears delicate, it is relatively heavy, and is marked semi-porcelain. The flow is just enough to make the design appear very elegant, flowing on the outside and leaving a lovely light blue sheen between portions of the darker blue design. However, the interior of the bowl is almost pure white. There are a few specs in the interior glaze. Flow blue is a manufacturing process where the blue dye “flowed” into the clay of the plate during firing. Because this piece indicates country of origin marked on the back, it indicates it was made after 1880 when country of origin was required on all imported pottery.
