This appears to be an old mold box used in a foundry. The pattern is placed in the box and casting sand is packed in the box around the pattern. After the sand sets up the box is opened as shown and the mold removed. The mold is split so the pattern can be removed and then placed back together again and placed in the box. The molten metal is poured into the mold and it is allowed to cool. After cooling The box is removed and the sand mold is broken apart leaving the casting. It appears to be a very old item as is evident by the cast hardware. The dimensions of the box are 16" x 14" x 10". The pin locking hardware on one side is missing. This could be used for display of some kind, oiling the wood would make it look good. Shipping determined by buyers location. Prefered payment method is PayPal, money order ok.
