FRATERNAL S WORD & S CABBARD c.1860s-1890s Provenance: I will not pretend to be an authority on fraternal swords ( I know you're out there), but here is what I know: Just after the civil war, various groups including the Masonic Knights of Templar, Knights of Pithia, Columbus and St. John (to name a few) formed semi-militia, secret societies in the event of a civil uprising. Swords were awarded to the highly regarded members of these organizations. I have sold several of these in the past, if you know anything about this particular sword, all comment are welcome. I believe it is a Knights of Templar sword from Seattle. Description: This 19th century sword is stamped "Germany" just below the hilt on one side. The other side is engraved "The Henderson Ames Co. Kalamazoo, Michigan" The hilt features a pommel with a knight's helmet. The grip appears to be made of bone with intricate engraving. On one side is a cross with a triangle, the other side has owner's initals L, W & B ( Lyman W. Brundage) with a crown and garland. The blade is nice and shiny, engraved on both sides with medieval illustrations, borders and the name of the honored recipient. The blade measures 28.25" long and is in excellent condition with a nice point, overall length is 36.25". The cross guard (quillian) is flanked with two triangles accented in crimson red. read more
