DESCRIPTION Antique French Art Deco Liquor Cabinet / Cocktail Bar / Buffet / Sideboard ~ This is a magnificent piece of French furniture dating from the 1930s. It's exquisitely rendered in tiger oak with a superb banded inlay that shows off the grain and tone of the oak to perfection. This lovely thing stands tall on elegant legs joining the lower cabinet, which consists of three cupboards and a handy array of drawers down the center. Keys and locks, so if you want to use this as a bar, it's a simple matter to keep the beverages away from the little ones. The lower chest is topped with a huge slab of white Carrera marble. It has none of the typical rust stains we usually find on this pristine marble from Italy and it's in grand shape. Two features of this luscious marble top tell us it was not originally with this piece: t are well filled and hidden attachment holes near the back on both sides and it has a little well in the front to catch rolling things . . . perhaps in this case, it can catch olives and cocktail onions. It's lush marble and perfect with this piece, lending a softness to the cabinet that we find particularly appealing. The upper cabinet is divine. That's the short story, but the longer one is that it is gracefully supported with curving oak, as beautifully inlaid as the cabinet below, and it has the best glass we' ve ever found in an old French cabinet. The leaded glass doors look like jewels, in large part because the glass is beveled, with a centerpiece of topaz glass, a choice of color which harmonizes well with the oak of the cabinet. The leading is brass cane, a nice touch, and difficult to work with, more evidence this is a superb quality piece of furniture. The ruby glass is cut-to-clear with the outer edges of the bevel being clear and the center a rich red. The center cabinet has an oval mirror, also beveled, and a center back beveled mirror to add sparkle to the proceedings. Both mirrors are in great shape, clear and free of chips, cracks, that sort of thing. This stunning piece is ready for use, in wonderful condition, free of damage and absolutely magnificent. At the risk of raving about it, we'll just say that it is one of the finest pieces we've had and is of a quality we're just not seeing at auction much anymore. Last word? Grand, elegant, sophisticated. Three words, but much deserved, every one of them. SIZE: Lower cabinet is 48 inches wide, 21 inches deep (marble size), 39.75 inches to top of marble; upper cabinet is 13.5 inches deep (exterior) and the overall height is 76.25 inches SHIPPING: $235 takes this to the nearest freight terminal for pickup in most locales. Picking up is the best way to save money and in most instances, we can get within 25-30 miles of your home (usually less). Insurance and tracking are included in this price.
