This gorgeous antique French Art Nouveau spelter lamp is incredibly elegant and beautiful. The lamp is signed by the Italian artist Luca Madrassi (1848-1919). Madrassi was renown for his bronze and ivory statues. He is extensively listed with particular mention in "The Artist's Bluebook". Madrassi's work has recently been of interest at the auction houses of the Dallas Auction Gallery, Adam A. Wescler & Sons, Hotel de Ventes Horta in Brussels and Christie's, London. I believe that this spectacular lamp dates from the late 1800's. The lamp stands 28" tall. It is 11" across at its widest point and the base has a diameter of 6". The lamp depicts the elegant figure of a young woman. The woman is wearing a serene expression. She wears a simple dress with no shoes. The stems of two flowers extend from behind the woman's figure. The stems intertwine and become the blossom of the flower which holds the light bulb. On the base of the lamp is a small plaque which reads "Premieres Roses", or Premiere of the Roses. The left side of the base is engraved with the artist's signature "L.Madrassi".T is a circular embossed stamp on the reverse side of the lamp. The stamp reads "Fabricated read more
