Please note...although I am in Pennsylvania at the moment the chairs are located in Cortland, NY (central NY) 4 ANTIQUE FRENCH Barley Twist OAKHUNT CHAIRS with gargoyle/griffin/gryphon * Elaborately Hand Carved Set of 4 Carved, Barley Twist Oak Chairs * Beautiful detail and dark finish. *French made Aprox. Age is 1880-1900's. * Flanked By Spindled Barley Twist Columns and Topped with Nicely Carved Finials *Gorgeously Carved Medallion Crested Crowns *Accented with Carved Griffins , ( Griffons /Gryphons - see below ) on Each Side *Each Chair Is Accented With A Spindled Barley Twist H-Stretcher Base ____________________________________ These c hairs have been professionally restored . The finish has not been touched and is left natural dark oak. They have been re-tightened . (They were not bad when I got them!) The seats have new springs, webbing and padding . The back and seat have been re-upholstered in a variegated and grained, burgundy naugahyde. I am fairly sure it was naugahyde they used and not real leather, but it is a very good quality, easy care material. You could have them easily re-upholstered in something you like better since the seats have new springs, webbing and padding. They are very heavy ( not your modern chair ) and were very well made . As these are antiques and well over 100 years old they are not perfect. Please look at all the pictures and ask any questions. Please note the following: I have had pictures taken of all the chairs both front and back. With the flash reflecting off the upper back of one chair you can see where someone has glued the back. This did not show on the front of the chair and in NORMAL LIGHT … you have to look for it . On the upper back of the other chair is some sort of stripe in the color of the oak. I am not sure what it was – it was there when I purchased them. This shows up under the bright flash and it also is not that noticeable under normal light. It is not a scratch. Dimensions: They are 44 1/2" tall at the back. From the seat to the floor is 19 1/2". The seat is 19" from side to side and 18" from the front to the back. I try to describe my items accurately. I am an honest seller with 100% feedback and want to keep it that way. I saw chairs similar at Boldt Castle in the 1000 islands. A great addition to your castle or medieval or renaissance look! I am sad to part with these …but must. Shipping: You must pick up in central New York State or you can call a shipper to pick up. I have no way of packing them to ship. In heraldry, a griffin always has forelegs like an eagle's; the beast with forelimbs like a lion's forelegs was distinguished by perhaps only one English herald of later heraldry as the opinicus.
