COLLECTIBLE-EXPRESS PROUDLY PRESENTS ANTIQUEHUBLEY/NATIONAL FOUNDRY FRENCH BULLDOG CAST IRON DOORSTOP *************** FRENCH BULLDOG, EXAMPLE NUMBER 1, BLACK ENAMEL I'm pleased to present you with an antique French Bulldog Cast Iron Doorstop. This is an authentic, full bodied, two piece dog made in the 1920's, NOT a reproduction. T is no hallmark or stamp on the piece, so I cannot say with certainty whether it was manufactured by Hubley or National Foundry - but it certainly has the authentic patina, the obvious age, and is absolutely the same dog shown on the upper right corner of page 74 in Jeanne Bertoia's "Doorstops, Identification & Values" published in 1988. The dog in the book has a black and white enameled coat. As you have noticed, this is the black version. I happen to have both, and I will list the black and white version in a day or two. He's 7 5/8 inches tall by 6 1/2 inches long by 4 7/8 inches wide, and weighs 4.5 pounds.This dog is a heartbreaker, giving you that great bug-eyed pitiful stare french bulldogs are so well known for. As I mentioned, this example is painted black, with a brown studded collar. The screw on the right side of the body is completely painted over, and in fact, the seams on this dog are mostly plugged and painted over on both versions I have.
