Fabulous antique French Napoleon III era 16" mantel clock with Louis XVI style shaping, marquetry kingwood veneers and ornate gilt bronze ormolu accenting! We've had beautiful old clocks throughout the years, most in this shape have been boulle cases with brass & shell inlays over the facade. This piece with marquetry style kingwood veneers over the beautifully shaped case with scrolling tendrils in heavy gilt bronze ormolu accenting. The bezel has a large 5 3/4" diameter, retains the original convex glass and opens to the enamel dial or face. The clock works are marked "Medaille D'Argent, Vincenti & Cie., 1855" and there are enamel markings on the face that are somewhat illegible. "Made in France" and "London" are easily recognizable but I can't quite make out the maker or retailer name at the top. An elegant old French clock, in superb condition and with immense visual and decorative appeal! AND, it works beautifully. Very good condition. There is a tiny chip to the enamel face at the very top center adjustment key hole (just below the "60". A few hairline cracks in the enamel are visible around the 5-7 o'clock area. A small veneer chip or two possible and there is a darkened spot or two to the veneers but no structural damage, no repairs. The clock does run and has a beautiful warm chime (not a bell but a coil chime). We've not tested it for accuracy or duration. See pictures for measurements.
