Working Lock and Key Brass Pulls Rear and Front Dovetailed Drawer Joints Finished Interior Carved Cabriole Legs Hand-cut dovetails. Ornately carved feet. Sturdy, completed back. This highly unique, mahogany cabinet was hand-crafted in England around 1910. Since then, the piece has come to acquire a rather unique history: it seems to have been painted or finished at some point in time, then stripped. The result is a stunning, swept-finish, walnut-colored appearance. What makes this piece unique is not only this accidental beauty, but that it is mahogany. Irresistible charm is mirrored by superb craftsmanship: the piece is solid wood (a rare quality today), thus ensuring the highest quality and strength; the drawers feature rear and front hand-cut dovetailed joints--a firm indicator of skilled construction--and are strengthened by middle supports; the feet are a bit weak, but have gone through some minor repairs, but they should be alright if the piece isn't abused; the interiors are finished, and the back is solidly framed, giving the piece that extra-mile, complete look. Additionally, the beautiful swirly finish resulting from the piece's intriguing history looks absolutely fantastic with the shape of the cabinet itself, a quality enhanced by parallel moulding, and also by the wonderfully carved feet. The piece's crest adds that final flair, but manages to do so unobtrusively. Beautiful and well-built, this piece is also incredibly useful--three drawers provide plenty of storage space, and the interior shelving features a working lock and key, thus providing useful, private space. Condition remains good, despite a few minor scuffs on the sides and the weak feet.
