Offered here is an original, unrestored 1920s Galvin 10" Cast Iron oscillating desk fan with solid brass blades. 5 day auctionThis fan comes from an old collection of unrestored fans and retains it's original black japan finish in remarkably good condition. The fan has three speeds and runs very well on each of those speeds with good speed separation. After a 20 minute test run the motor was still cool to the touch. There is one problem with the oscillating mechanism where it will not stay oscillating for more than several minutes but it does oscillate nicely when it's working. I was not able to figure out how to engage or disengage the fan from oscillating other than fiddling around with the knob on top of the gearbox. I cleaned the gearbox and installed new grease hoping to find the problem and the gears all look unworn and in great condition. There is a steel shaft from the gearbox knob to inside the gearbox that is worn on its sides which could be the problem, but it's beyond my expertise so I am selling the fan as needing work on the oscillation.The Galvin Electric Mfg. Co. was a smaller St. Louis manufacture making very good quality fans and other electrical goods in the 1920s. This 10" model is probably their top of the line model in this size and is built much better than most 10" fans. The motor and base are made of cast read more
