Antique Horticultural Medal – raised lettering with “Pennsylvania Horticultural Society” and raised design of seated classical mythological woman figure, with shield, and small child standing nearby with basket on head. Artist name lower right “C. C. Wright F”. On verso is engraved ”To Alexander Burnett For the Best Rhodendron March 16 th 1852.” Heavy Bronze ? round metal, in green patterned paper cardboard round two part box, with remnant of early label. Measurements of medal c. 2 ½” in diameter. Good condition; small holes for mounting at center top and bottom; small dark smudge on verso of medal; extremity wear to edges of box. A lovely 20 th century horticulture show award or prize and garden history memorabilia. SEE IMAGE!
