Up for auction today is a really great adjustable telescoping cast iron and brass George Washington bookend or book holder. Sadly these are not marked, so I don't know who made them, but I wouldn't venture of the guess of Bradley & Hubbard because of the quality of the piece. Both end pieces are cast iron, with the bust a cameo of Washington decorated with flags, laurel, and cherry blossom, with "Washington" on a black below his portrait. These ends are marked with a mold number "751" on the back. They are held onto a brass adjustable base with brass screws - the screws allow the ends to lay down. The base consists of three brass tubes that telescope or adjust to hold more books. The piece starts out at 12 1/4" wide (to the outside of the ends), and expands to approx. 22" wide (to the outside of the ends). There are stops to keep it from opening any farther. The ends are approx. 5 1/8" tall x 6 3/8" wide. The piece is in pretty good condition. There are no breaks, chips or cracks to the cast iron or brass, but there are a few small spots of surface rust and/or tarnish. Still, the piece functions well and is complete - and its a Great Looking Piece! This would look great with a collection of antique books about Washington, and would make a great conversation piece or display piece in your collection. This is not a bookend you typically read more
