ANTIQUE GEORGIAN PETIT POINT EMBROIDERY SARAH HOBBS & DOG c1825 WITH PROVENANCE A superb little miniature petit point embroidery by or possibly of Sarah Hobbs and her dog in the original rosewood frame. The work dates to circa 1825-30 and is in excellent condition. The embroidery has been worked in silk on fine muslin, the work is so fine and detailed, incredibly tiny stitches, really exquisite. The muslin has been placed over a hand painted background giving an almost 3D effect of white clouds on a blue sky gradually fading down to the ground colour. I cannot express how lovely and fine the detail is on this piece, one of the nicest needleworks I have had. The condition is perfect, no insect damage and the colours are as bright as the day it was embroidered. The frame is superb, veneered with rosewood with a gilt inner frame and original brass hanging loop at the top, all in lovely condition. There is some hand written provenance on the back which I have further researched as follows: Sarah Pepper was born 27th Feb 1814 in Southwark, London of Parents William & Esther Pepper. Sarah married James Hobbs when she was 23 years old on 25th Feb 1837 at Christ church in Marylebone, London. Sarah & James had a son Joseph, 8 months after they married, born on 24 Oct 1837. James died in 1838 leaving Sarah a widow but she married William read more
