This is an antique German 2-draw ship's telescope, engraved: "Voigtlander &John, A.G., Braunschneig".The telescope is about 17" long when folded, or 25" extended. The eye piece is protected by the cover movable by a fingernail, the other end does not have a cap. The telescope is made of some white metal, with a center part wrapped in the shark skin. There is one minor nick to the skin, shown on the photo, otherwise very good. The objective lens is somewhat dirty. I decided not to clean it, because I do not want to scratch it, and leave this to a professional. Overall, an interesting and rare artifact from probably around 130-140 years ago. See photos.
