Very old wooden recipe box. It's oak with dove-tailed corners. The front tag reads "Gold Medal Flour Kitchen-tested Recipes". Inside, it still has its dividers, each with a picture or illustration in color. Inside the top of the box is an endorsement by Betty Crocker. T are dozens of recipes, heavy on the breads and desserts, as you might imagine. T's "Turkey, Duck or Chicken Cream Pie", "Pineapple Butterscotch Cake" and "Comfort Icing." 4" tall, 4" by 5 1/2". Mother was a great cook (this isn't her recipe box-my sister took that.) Of course, a lot of things that were popular when she was growing up are considered unhealthy now. My grandmother cooked too - a favorite family story is when she made cherry pie and put it on the sill to cool. The cat got into it. My grandmother cut out the spoiled part and served it; my grandfather kept teasing her that she was eating the part w the cat had nibbled. My grandmother retorted, "Yes, but you're eating w the cat sat." This article comes from an estate sale of my mother's things. She and my dad traveled widely and she left many souvenirs from around the world. They also collected Victorian antiques. As I sell her things, I have been writing a few notes about each.
