Victorian Gothic oak chair. High back. Barly twist uprights and stretchers. Carved decoration. Cane seat and back - the caning is in sound condition - we think the seat may have been re-caned. The back has barley twist uprights with finials on top. The top back is ornately carved with foliage and there is similar carving on sides and below cane back. The centre back panel was constructed slightly asymetrically - see photo 2. There is carving under front and sides of seat. Four barley twist stretchers. Turned front legs and barley twist back legs. Good wood and patina. There has been minor restoration to the right upright and the top right finial has been detached and re-attached at some time. This is a sound chair - nicely aged from over one hundred years of use. An imposing chair in good condition for its age. height 43", height to seat 19", across 18", deep 17".
