It probably came to America with my great uncle, who was from Poland and who was a man of science and medicine. It is a Grom & Holl microscope, made in Germany. Instruments from this maker are VERY RARE, in fact, the only other 'scope I can find from the maker is in a museum in Germany. The museum states that the microscope is from 1905, but an antique microscope expert has informed me that the date is probably closer to 1920, and I want to be honest and accurate in this listing. The instrument is stamped: GROM & HOLL FRANKFURTa.Main No 551 The instrument works beautifully - you can see so many things through its lenses! It has a sliding, adjustable main focal tube with numbered scale markings - the top of the microscope that you see in the photos can pull out an additional four inches to increase the focal length. It has three primary lenses at the bottom of the main focal tube. They are on a rotating disk. One has a number "1" stamped on its side. Another has a "9" stamped on its side. The third doesn't have a stamped mark like the others. There are two slide-holders on a circle slide table to read more
