This is a hand crafted lantern from an 1800s Italianate style home owned by my family in Providence, RI. The house took years to build and was completed in the late 19c. Many of the furnishings were imported from Europe and made specifically for the mansion. This lantern is original to the house. The building is now owned by the Rhode Island School of Design. I speculate the materials are glass, copper and perhaps tin with another composite. Wiring is attached, but needs to be re-worked. It takes a standard base light bulb. T are 6 peaks soldered around the octagonal center glass. Each triangular peak is 4 sided with glass inserts.I have a matching lantern listed separately. The item number for the other one is 140236012639. The initial asking price on the other one is less because it requires more repair work. It hung outdoors in a portico, but would be just as lovely indoors. T is an inordinate amount of hand work detail in this starburst design. In addition to a good cleaning the buyer should be aware that although repair is minimal, it requires skill.The front door opens to allow access to the socket for changing the bulb. The door needs to be adjusted so it latches securely. Areas to note: Glass is broken on 1 side of one peak (photo). An artisan could replace this piece.
