This is a sweet little portable antique French oil lamp in excellent working condition. Measuring approx 9 1/2" tall it is in superb original working condition complete with its glass bowl. Dating from around 1900 it is made from shiny nickel plated brass and stamped on the front "Lampe Pigeon Veritable". The top picture is of my own lamp to show what they look like when lit. They are fuelled by special lamp oil which is easily available online or in shops and can even be bought with perfumed scents such as Jasmine, lavender and campanella (to ward away flies & mosquitoes). The reservoir if filled with horsehair and the wick draws the oil from this so even if you drop it, it won't catch fire or spill the oil. To light, remove the glass dome, raise the wick slightly above the housing and light with a match. Carefully replace the glass dome and then lower the wick to your desired lighting strength. It will burn safely and happily for hours without replenishing the oil. When you've finished with it, turn the wick down and the flame extinguishes safely. It has a handle on the side for carrying or slotting onto a hook on the wall and is specifically designed to be carried safely. Shipping costs include priority airmail shipping and all packing costs.
