These gorgeous Nippon antique pitcher & cups came from the estate of a lady who died over 50 years ago. They are genuine Nippon and I believe they are very early in Nippon production (1891-1921). This set probably had 4 or 6 cups and I'm guessing was for iced tea or lemonade due to the ice lip in the picher. The hand painted violets are accented with metallic gold at the top rims and handles. The cups are marked: "China, Te-Oh, Hand Painted, Nippon". The mark on the pitcher is almost gone (photo #8). are the specifics: Pitcher: 6" Tall 5 1/2" wide at top (6 1/2" at spout) Width-8 1/2" inc. handle Condition: No major chips or cracks- Inside only: 2" hairline at handle-several other hairlines down inside body Several flaws appear under glaze on outside (photo #10) Gold trim worn on handle, spout & ice lip Cups: 3 3/4" Tall - 2 3/4" top diameter: 2" bottom diameter Gold worn on top rims-lightly on handles-factory flaws under glaze Condition: no major chips or cracks- 2 light hairlines inside 1 cup, 1 hairline inside other cup This lovely set was undoubtedly well-used, but still displays beautifully.
