This beautiful Victorian Crazy Quilt is loaded with detail and a fine display of needlework. I love the folk art symbols most likely a reflection of the makers life. It is a great quilt and could benefit from the replacement of a few shattered silks that are common with the crazies. There are actually many fabrics that have deterioration but the needlework (especially the florals) are so stunning the fabric losses are easily overlooked. There is a hole that goes through one of the white chickens that could be fixed with a backing patch and a few strands of white embroidery floss on the front. The original backing was a light kid fabric that completely deteriorated. I have removed it and given this quilt a good and careful vaccum to remove all the dust. Some of the backing still remains under the border stitches. The overall size is 74 X 78 inches. Each block is backed for strength. It is entirely hand pieced and hand embroidered by a very skilled quilter needleworker. The border on all four sides is velvet and measures 5" inches wide. CONDITION : It has and fabric thinning and deterioration common with crazy quilts. I do hope the photos help you determine the quality and issues. Mentioned above is a small hole that goes through the chickens breast. Very fixable. All the stitches are in place and the needlework is in excellent read more
