This is a beautiful Old Ledger that was in use in 1903, most likely in the Santa Clara County/San Jose or Santa Cruz, California Area. The entries detail purchaces and balancing for a grocery store or meat market and there is at least one customer with a Santa Cruz address listed. Some of the names in the ledger include: Darling, Geo Lee, Gable, Wolff, Wells, Dougherty, Boulware, Ryan, Armour, Lociero, Mrs. Kennedy, George L. Barker, Cou Spice, O'Connor, Joe Prisk, Thorpe, Hitchcock, Shelvock, Harvey Kelly, Walter Matthewson, Volkers, H. H. Herndon and many more. Most entries do not have the first name to help identify the actual person, but some do. All pages of this book are filled with neatly handwritten cursive. Partway through the book you will see that they have changed their entry style and purchased a stamp to date each entry. It is very interesting to note the difference in prices as there are entries detailing a customer buying 25 cents worth of steak. The book has wear and tear but it is light. All pages turn correctly and easily, the paper is in very good condition for its age. Page 3/4 has a piece torn out of the bottom section, and there appears to be a little insect nibbling that occurs on the back cover inside, and a small hole and tear on the front inside, but most pages are fully intact.
