2 ANTIQUE HUCKABACK IRISH LINEN DAMASK TOWELS UNUSED.EACH IS MARKED OCP12 AND DATED 1920. STILL IN ORIGINAL PAPER WRAPPING WITH LABEL ATTACHED READS-FACE TOWELS 1 DOZ HUCKABACK 168 12 1920. WONDERFUL QUALITY TOWELS, SHOWING STORAGE MARKS BUT I WOULD THINK EASILY REMOVED WITH WASHING. THESE TOWELS WERE USED BEFORE THE INTRODUCTION OF TERRY TOWELS AND ARE LIGHTWEIGHT WITH A HIGH OBSORBANCY AND STIMULATE THE SKIN. EACH TOWEL HAS A VERY PRETTY BORDER OF FLOWERS-PLEASE VIEW DETAIL IN PICTURES. WOULD LOOK GREAT ON DISPLAY IN YOUR BATHROOM AND OF COURSE USEFUL TOO. Huckaback weave is characterised by its 'honeycomb' texture and has been used since the Middle Ages. It's purpose is to add greater volume to linen fabric, thus enhancing its drying abilities. Interestingly, huckaback towels pre-date our modern terry cloth towels, which made their debut in the late 19th century. WONDERFUL ANTIQUE LINEN, SUPERB QUALITY AND RARE TO FIND IN USED CONDITION.
