Rare Pre-Prohibition Beer BottleHuebner Brewery, Toledo OhioStamped: PURE WITHOUT DRUGS OR POISONExcellent ConditionSome History:When I acquired this antique beer bottle, originating from the Huebner-Toledo Breweries Company once located at Hamilton and Division Streets in Toledo,Ohio, I noticed something odd.The age of the bottle falls in a small time window -- Huebner-Toledo Breweries Co. wasn't around under that name that long, launching in 1904 when Huebner Brewing Co., Ltd., (which itself had formed when John Huebner had purchased the former The Toledo Brewing and Malting Co. located on the spot), merged with a number of other smaller breweries. All of the above mentioned changes with Huebner happened between 1896 and 1904.The history here is certainly interesting, but not odd. No what struck me as odd was the embossing at the bottom of the bottle.My first thought was that was stating the obvious. My second thought was what an odd thing to emboss on a bottle. Why?Previously I mentioned Huebner-Toledo Breweries Co. had a limited run as a name, from 1904 until 1919, fifteen years, when the anti-alcohol Prohibition movement got its way and the company could no longer draw sales through making beer.
