AMAZING FIND! Vintage Indonesia (Javanese) Silver Bowl 900 Silver Djokjakarta (Yogyakarta) Referred to a Yogya or Djokja Silver Signed: 900 AG Weight: 8.7 Ounzes Excellent Condition Most of the Yogya Silver was purchased by foreigners from Europe and the United States. Indonesia has a long and proud history in the art of silversmithing. By the 20th century, most of the silversmithing was dying out due to the loss of power of the nobility in the country. In the 1930s a Dutch woman, Mary Agnes van Gesseler Verschuir-Pownall took interest in reviving the silversmith industry in Indonesia. The industry thrived once again into the 1960s. Almost all of the Indonesia Silver items were purchased from foreigners and few vintage items remain in Indonesia. It is a wonderful piece of art and weighs 8.7 ounzes on a digital scale. It is 90% solid silver (Silver mark of 900) (Sterling is 925). It is 6 1/2" wide and 2" tall. It is signed on the inside (900 AG). It most likely dates to the 1930s but not sure of the actual age. T are some very light surface scratches and a few very small dings on the rim from age. It is an amazing and beautiful piece of silver art. Please see the attached pictures.
