This little antique display case is very interesting. I've not seen one like it. Very nice decorative wood inlays on the lid and sides. T's a wind up knob for the music box on the bottom, which seems to be stuck. I will try to get it working again. One sticker on the bottom says "Made in Italy " and the other says "'Funiculi Funicula". I discovered after some research that this is a popular song from the 1950's sung by Mario Lanza, among others, and originated from Italy in the late 19th Century: " Funiculì, Funiculà " is a famous song written by Italian journalist Peppino Turco and set to music by Italian composer Luigi Denza in 1880. It was composed to commemorate the opening of the first funicular on Mount Vesuvius . It was sung for the first time in the Quisisana Hotel in Castellammare di Stabia and met with huge success. It was presented by Turco and Denza at the Piedigrotta festival during the same year. Edward Oxenford, an English songwriter and translator of libretti, published a version which became somewhat traditional in English-speaking countries.
