Antique Jade Jewelry Gecko Lizard Filigree Silver Brooch c1900 Art Deco Description A WONDERFUL ORIGINAL VICTORIAN/ART DECO BROOCH WITH A FANTASTIC CARVED JADE OR JADEITE GECKO LIZARD SURROUNDED BY A STUNNING FLORAL AND LEAF DESIGN IN IN SILVER DATING TO C1900. This is just a magnificent antique jewel! This wonderful original Victorian Aesthetic movement brooch is one of the best. It features a beautifully carved jade lizard which I believe is a gecko in the center. The lizard is a wonderful green color and is so wonderfully carved with eyes and mouth, and spots on its body. The lizard is set in a beautiful aesthetic movement, art nouveau inspired silver mounting with leaves and flowers in abundance. The overall effect is as if the little fellow is sitting amongst the leaves. The brooch has an early clasp on the back and with its design and style I believe this dates to c1900. This really is a rare and divine brooch and so hard to find in this Aesthetic movement style! The overall effect of this original Victorian gem is classic and elegant with the most wonderful touch of whimsy! The brooch is in excellent condition. The jade is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. The brooch is 1 3/8 inches long ( 36 mm) and 7/8 inch (23 mm) wide. The clasp closes securely. There are no marks on the brooch.
