This is a hand painted scroll on paper of Daruma We don't know it's age but we're pretty sure it's very old. Most likely Edo era from the 1700's to the early 1800's. We say this because it takes a long time for paper to age tto hat color, especially when it would only be hung in a shady spot and the rest of the time it would have been rolled up for protection. It is signed and stamped by the artist in the upper part of the scroll. The scroll itself is 81 inches long (207 cm) and 29 1/2 inches wide (75 cm) The painting itself (the "Honshi") is 54 inches long. (139 cm) and 24 1/2 inches wide (62 cm). The scroll has water damage to the top of the scroll and this carries down to the top aprt of the Honshi just above where the caligraphy is. Look closely at photos # 3 & 7. The painting of Daruma himself has no damage. The wood or bone ends are missing. See the last two photos. Framing this would be an idea to consider. We have other Japanese items as well. We will combine them in shipping if we can safely do so. And if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, return it within 14 days for a no questions asked refund.
