Japanese Antique Lacquer 3-Drawer Treasure Box. You are bidding on an Antique Japanese Lacquer Box. My friend Anna lived in Japan from the mid-1940's to 1953. She brought it back to the states when she returned. She did not know exactly how old it was. It measures 7 1/2" tall, 5 1/4" wide and 7 3/4" deep. The door has a lovely painting of 2 ships in the water, with mountains in the background, lots of trees, clouds and shrubs. The sides, top and back, all have simular designs of leaves, and flowers in gold paint. The silver lock, hinges, handle bracket and corner brackets are all silver. They have a lovely miniscule design in them. There are 3 drawers that are of black lacquer on the outside and beautiful bright red on the inside. They all have a painted gold design on the front of the drawers, under the charming silver handles and brackets. There are very few condition problems with this well-loved box. There is a slight amount of paint missing from some outter edges, which is to be expected from such an old box. The lock does need a new key, but since it is not locked now, it can still be opened. There is a tiny (7/8") key attached with string to the top handle. It does not fit into the lock very well, but does assist in opening the door.
