Antique Japanese Meiji Miniature Sumida Gawa Vase Signed Ban-ni c.1900 - 9cm Description MORE PHOTOS BELOW - A small Japanese Meiji period Sumida Gawa vase, signed Ban-ni, and dating to around c.1890 - 1900. The red painted vase is of waisted form with a flared rim and foot, the rim being covered in a flowing glaze of various shades of green and brown which drips down the sides of the vase and into the mouth. The vase has an applied three dimensional glazed figure of a lady dressed in a blue and white kimono, standing of a rocky precipice, with an outstretched arm holding a fan or branch in her hand. There is a small glazed oval tile applied to the lower side, bearing the kanji signature Ban-ni. Condition is good, with a minor chip to the extremity of the kimono and the loss of one hand - please see photos and .
