This antique Japanese plate is for Longevity and Good Fortune, and features a wise old man being followed by a flying crane (or tsuru). The tsuru, is considered a national treasure in Japan. It is the symbol of longevity and good luck because it was thought to have a life span of a thousand years. The tsuru or crane also represents the same to Korean & Chinese cultures.
