You are viewing a delightful antique Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk. The bread loaf shape is what we have It has been beautifully refinished to be almost exact as it was originally. The only difference is that the leather coating has been stripped. In my opinion, the natural wood looks better. This would be an awesome piece to display or to utilize as a storage compartment. Would be great for old photos or memorabilia. It has 4 fully functional and carpet friendly casters on the bottom. Not that you would need them. The trunk is very lightweight. The dimensions are L30", H18" and W17". A perfect small size to fit anyw To refinish, the original leather was removed from the base. It was old and not pleasant to see. What was left of the inside papering was also removed. The entire trunk was then sanded to be smooth to the touch. T wasn't a stitch of rust to deal with. The outside was then treated with 3 coats of satin Polyurethane by Minwax. The inside was only treated with 1 coat because the wood needs to breathe in order to prevent future warping that may occur. It also cuts out the Poly smell. Upon recieving the trunk, one should put a box of Arm & Hammer inside to absorb the rest of the Poly odor. The metal trim was painted flat black by Rustoleum. The slat clamps. lock cover, handle caps, nail ornamentation and nails were all painted in Gold Leaf. The hinges in the back were replaced with solid brass. The straps, strap keepers and handles were replaced with quality black leather. The handles were doubled for extra strength. The buckles for the straps are solid brass too. This is a true antique, so tfore t are character marks. This is very normal for something so old. The lock works with the correct key, but the upper mechanism is gone. Tfore it doesn't lock. When I recieved the trunk, the lid was not attached because it broke off from the back. A strip of wood from the lower back was broken off at the hinges. That was reattached with super strength wood glue. T are some stress cracks. T is a small piece of wood missing from the upper frontal portion of lid. By the seam. T are normal dings and knicks in the wood base. Otherwise this trunk is in really great shape. Considering it's age. I believe it is from the late 1800's early 1900's. The inside is not as attractive as the outside. When manufactured, they put the rough wood on the inside. No amount of sanding would make it totally smooth. It is stained on the inside as well. Not really a big deal. Who sees the inside any way? T is also a very large crack in the very bottom of trunk. Very small loose items may fall through. One of the handle caps does not match the other 3. The trunk came with the original handles, so I think that was a mistake by the manufacturer.
