This fabulous antique Kent knife sharpener and cleaner was manufactured in the 1800s. It was made in London by Kent Manufacturer, with a register number of 199-201. It is made from oak, brass, and iron. On the front of the sharpener there is a beautiful brass emblem with a lion and unicorn that reads: "KENT PATENTEE AND MANUFACTURER 199 HIGH HOLBORN" with a roman numeral clock/dial located in the top center of the brass emblem. All emblems are in tack and readable. Examples ; The left front label reads: "USE ONLY KENT'S EMERY IN THIS KNIFE MACHINE. Etc… The right front label provides & reads: " SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS. All grease, etc must be removed from blades before putting knives into machine. The edges of blades must be towards the stays. Small knives must not be cleaned with large ones. The index must be pointed to the dot….. etc. etc" The front bottom round label reads: "ENGLISH MANUFACTURER 199-201 CEO KENT LTD RICH HOLBORN LONDON ENGLAND" The piece is in good condition. Minor scratches, wood finish needs polishing. No restoration has been performed. The handle turns fine and sharpener functional. The sharpener weighs approximately 25 pounds (unpacked).
