I purchased this awesome piece from the original owner, who as a child was assigned the lard pressing duties. Multitudes of memories and toil were associated to this iconic piece of yesteryear. DESCRIPTION: Being offered for a nod of consideration and the experience of a lifetime is an authentic vintage unmarked cast iron 10 qt. lard/fruit press from the pages of history. This iconic press comes operational with the equipment needed to embrace the art of wine making or the skill of lard pressing.. Donned with amble surface rust, the legendary press has fallen victim to the saturated weather we experience in the great lakes state of Michigan . (Not full exposure, just the humidity) Hence the explanation of the surface rust that accompanies this intriguing piece. I do believe the cast iron barrel may have held the mystery as to the make of this awesome press; however the years of use and sanitation have removed its identification from sight. ): The only hint as to its creator is the embossed numbers that are pressed to the iron which reads: P (or R) 16 on the locking cross bar that straddles the monstrous screw bar. As well as the actual press plate which reads: 10 Quarts P 20. The under bottom of the entire unit does have the marking 10 something embossed to its metal. Please view all photos. Take it consideration the entire cast iron unit sits in the photos as it did the day I purchased it. I had intentions of giving the press a bath and donning it with Stove Black-however time eludes me and I must offer it in found condition. Stove black can be found as any Wal-Mart or Hardware store, it is used to take charcoal grills and stoves back to their original sheen. The rust viewed is that of surface rust, not corrosive embedded rust. (A simple application of rust removed and steel wool will take the piece into prized condition) The weight press disc that is attached to the massive functional crank can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. The disc is attached with a huge bold, then threaded onto the stem. I fully believe the weld job will outlast the test of time and use, however if you are one that wants to start new, a matching plate can be ordered from the website listed below. The website is: .
