This large Chinesestoneware ginger jar is a fabulous deep green color with a touch of blue to it. It measures an impressive 6.5” tall by approximately 6.5” at its widest point. As with most of these old items, there are irregularities in the glaze, consistent with the age and type of piece this is. There is some hardened “schmutz” on the top and bottom where there is no color. Don’t know what it is, but “schmutz” seems to cover it! One side of the jar has a darkened area in the glazing. Please see the photos; I think they will be able to tell you more than my written description. The embossed sides show figures, scenes, and Chinese symbols. The bottom is marked with what almost appear to be two blossoms. The last photo shows two ginger jars. The smaller of the two is available in a separate auction. This auction is for the larger jar only. You can tell I’m not an expert. I bought it because it’s beautiful and I loved it!
