This is an antique large telescope equatorial mount. Mount head only no tripod. I dont know the date of manufacture or manufacturer. Late 1800's or early 1900's. Could be 100 years old. Manufacturer could be Warner and Swasey, Brashear, Clarke, or other. Made of cast iron, bronze, and brass. I was told it came from an observatory in Hawaii. It is a large equatorial mount that probably held at least an 8" F15 refractir. It is solid as a rock and the motions are smooth in both axis. It includes a 9.5" RA worm gear bronze or brass with a matching worm and worm housing, 6" dec setting circle made of brass, dec tangent spring loaded slow motion, large dec thrust surfaces at least 5", large ra and dec housings with solid shafts, removable counterweight shaft, and a pre cast equatorial wedge. Looks like the angle is about 35 degrees however I am sure it originaly was mounted on a tilt plate. Very large sturdy antique mount. Good condition except for a crack on one end of the telescope mounting plate that should be welded. A very easy job. This is a serious piece of astronomical hardware and history. I welcome your questions and informed comments as I am not an expert on these types of items. This is a no reserve auction however if the auction shows no sign of life at the 12 hour limit I would consider removing it from auction.
