Up for sale is my antique Louis Vuitton Malle Aero Trunk suitcase. This wonderful extremely RARE piece of Vuitton was made between 1910 and 1925 and is good vintage condition for being almost 100 years old. It truly is a collectors piece! This collection was designed to be the first suitcase that could be stowed on early airplanes. It is relatively light in weight and the "feet" of the piece are located on the back of the suitcase so it could stow and be stacked up, as apposed to most pieces having the "feet" on the bottom so it could stand up. This piece would have fit inside the full size Malle Aero trunk. It has wear and could use a good cleaning inside a there are some dirty spots...I will leave this decision up to the new owner! The original handle has come off, but will come with the trunk. All of the hardware is in perfect working condition and marked Louis Vuitton and the original seal is present and in fabulous condition inside the trunk, with a stamped serial number. the lock has been long lost unfortunately. All surfaces of the piece are sturdy but do have travel marks on them. Remember you are bidding on an antique piece so it is far from new condition. The lid lifts perfectly and stays open as it should. The leather bindings around the piece are worn, but look vintage good. It will make the perfect addition to any decor or Vuitton collection.
Measurements are as follows: 27.5 "Long x 17"Tall x 8.5"Wide Note: the 'Malle Aero' was designed by twin brothers Pierre and Jean Vuitton, (born 1890), in 1910. Designed to be light in weight, compact and versatile, the 'Aero' weighed only 26 kgs when packed with a prescribed list of contents. The Vuitton twins were pioneer aviators and designed, amongst many other things, a primitive helicopter, the Vuitton III, shown (with the 'Malle Aero') at the fore-runner of the Paris Air Show at the Grand Palais in November 1910. Sadly, Jean Vuitton died only three days before the show opened, aged opened, aged only 20. His twin Pierre became a pilot in the Great War and was fatally wounded in September 1917.
